The official debut of the Bakfiets

As we mentioned on a previous post, we bought a Bakfiets, or as it may be more commonly known around these parts, a Dutch wooden bucket bike. We bought it used on Craigslist, spent the past couple of weeks fixing it up (upgrading the brakes, tuning the shifters, changing the tubes, that sort of stuff), [...]

A gorgeous day in PDX

We have been having some amazing weather the past few days. Today it is in the high 80′s! There is a great water park in downtown Portland that I have been wanting to take Mira to so I loaded up Mira, Dave & Sally (Dave’s parents) and off we went.  This was Mira’s first time [...]

Muchos huevos

We get eggs from our neighbors Skip and Jess, a few houses down. Their house is on a standard size (read: small) 50′ x 100′ Portland lot, and they have quite the operation: ~15 hens, ~5 ducks, and two pigmy sheep. That means lots of eggs! They’re yummy, colorful, and cheap (the eggs, that is). [...]

Spring Snow!

Monday morning funnies

I know it’s not Monday, but it sure feels like it as I had yesterday off of work due to President’s Day. Last weekend was the Mini Bike Winter festival in Portland. I didn’t attend any of the events, but I did enjoy watching videos from past MBW’s. Such as this clip of bike bowling, [...]

EuchreFest 2012

Last night we hosted the third annual EuchreFest. It was a blast. Lots of Euchre was played, of course, and it was great to see good friends again. Everyone brought a Midwest-style dish to share, to help sustain us through the evening. We played Euchre for about 2-1/2 hours, and then fabulous prizes were awarded. [...]

Out for a little jaunt

Mira and I joined our friends Jennifer and her daughter Eliana to the Chinese Garden this morning. The garden is free for the week and I have never been so we agreed we had to go! It was a gorgeous sunny day in Portland today, a little chilly, but nothing a good jacket and hat [...]

Waiting …

Our hopes for a baby on Nigel Tufnel day went unrealized. Morgan is doing great, and the baby will come when it’s ready. Maybe the baby heard me playing some Spinal Tap on the guitar, and decided s/he didn’t want to be associated with such a date. Things are moving, though. The baby is dropping lower, [...]

Staying weird in Portland

People do weird things in Portland. Last weekend, someone rode around a traffic circle for 100 miles: http://bikeportland.org/2011/08/01/filmmaker-does-650-laps-for-a-ladd-circle-century-57170 That guy can be forgiven for being so crazy, I guess, since this is the same guy that put together an awesome homage to the Tour de France:

Zoobomb!

No, I’m not referring to a terrorist attack. Zoobomb is a weekly event that involves a train, a lot of mini-bikes, and Portland’s plethora of hills just outside of downtown. It usually results in no injuries – and if there are injuries, they most certainly are self-inflicted. Every week, a group of people meets downtown, [...]
