Places to stay

Hotels

There are lots of hotels to choose from in downtown Portland, but here are some of our suggestions.

Bluebird Innhouse-facade4

http://www.bluebirdguesthouse.com/

This is located in SE Portland in a cozy little neighborhood with lots of restaurants, parks and shops around.  It is similar in style to a B&B but without the breakfast.  Amenities include free internet computer and free wi-fi, free local phone, free 24-hour on-street parking, laundry machines, free maps & info on Portland, and friendly innkeepers to assist with your visit.  Rooms average $65 to $95.  Reservations available online or call 866.717.4333.

Kennedy School, McMenamin’sbuilding

http://www.kennedyschool.com/

Located in NE Portland about a mile from our house.  Part of the McMenamin’s chain (local company that retrofits old buildings into hotel/brewpubs).  The hotel is set in an old elementary school building. Classrooms are hotel rooms, events are held in the gym, there is a cheap ($3) movie theater inside, brewpubs, and restaurants.  This will also be the location of our rehearsal dinner! Prices range from $109 to $130.  Book SOON, they book up fast in the summer and it is a great place to stay.  It would be best to have a car if you stay here since it is tucked in a little neighborhood and not near the ceremony or reception sites.  Reservations are available online or call (888) 249-3983.

Hawthorne HostelHawthorne Hostel

http://www.portlandhostel.org/

Located in inner SE Portland.  Hostel is within walking distance to many great coffee shops, restaurants and shops.  Easy access to downtown and ceremony site via bus or car. The provide sheets but you will need your own towel.  If you are interested in staying here I would read their website, there is gobs of information about what they offer and what the rules are.  Rates are $23 a night plus a $3 per night charge if you are not a Hostelling International member. There are other hostel’s in Portland so if you would like to stay in a different location check the Hotstelling International website.

Heathman Hotel

http://portland.heathmanhotel.com/

This is a very nice hotel that originated in Portland and about one mile from the reception site! This place has all of the amenities you’d hope for in a luxury hotel – personal concierge service with help for tickets to events, fitness suite, HDTV, and even an art gallery, a lending library and an amazing chocolate shop, Cacao. All of the rooms have free hard-wired internet access.

Paramount Hotel

http://www.portlandparamount.com/

The Paramount is a newer boutique hotel in Portland. It is one mile from the reception site. They offer rooms with 2 double beds or one king bed. Please note that they charge an additional $9.95 per day for internet access.

Modera Hotel

http://www.hotelmodera.com/

This is a less expensive but nice new hotel in Portland. The rooms have free wireless internet. They don’t seem to serve any food but there is coffee and a coffee maker in the room. If you want a quick breakfast, there is a Starbucks on Clay Street and Park Avenue (2 blocks west of the hotel), or Mother’s Bistro is on 2nd and Stark if you want something fancier.

There is a courtyard outside the hotel with seating around fire pits. It is about one and a half miles from the reception site, and is an easy streetcar ride between the two. Rooms will be about $130/night for 2 people (great value for downtown Portland). Rooms here can be booked online or by calling 1-877-484-1084.

Ace Hotel

http://www.acehotel.com/portland

This is the only ‘budget’ hotel in downtown Portland. It is new and looks very nice, but has a modern feel. It is about 0.7 miles from the reception, or a 12 block walk. They have fancy rooms with private bathrooms and suites, but they also have cheaper rooms with shared bathrooms down the corridor and rooms with 3 single beds to share with friends or family. All rooms have free wireless internet access.

Prices range from $95 for a double room or for a room with three single beds to $250 for a suite with a king-size bed and two single fold-out sofabeds. They don’t serve breakfast, but there is a Stumptown Coffee on the ground floor (who could ask for more than that?!). You can book online or call 1-503-228-2277.

Bed and Breakfasts:

We know of one good B&B in Portland, but it is on the other side of the river from downtown. You could get there by bus or MAX (the light rail), or by hire car if you get one.

The Blue Plum Inn

http://www.bluepluminn.com/

This is a beautiful old house in Northeast Portland. Suzanne and Jonathan are the very friendly innkeepers and are excellent resources for Portland info. The breakfasts are made from local ingredients and the portions are generous to say the least – you won’t need to worry about looking for lunch!

There is free wireless internet access throughout the house. The prices range from $196 for a two-bedroom suite with one double bed and two single beds, to $118 for a room with a double bed. All have private bathrooms and the prices includes the breakfast. You can book online or by calling 1-877-288-3844.
